Discovery Day
Saturday 16 August sees the return of the annual Heritage Discovery Day, a hugely popular FREE showcase for the borough's colourful past. The event will be held at Morden Library and Merton Civic Centre between 10.30am and 4.30pm.
This FREE family-friendly event is an annual showcase for Merton's colourful past, featuring stalls from museums, historical societies, local artists, sports, environmental and community groups.
The 2025 programme includes talks on Merton Priory and textile art, African culture, faith walks, Caribbean women in World War II and Mitcham Fair. You can also discover the fascinating stories of Wimbledon Community Association and the Dons Local Action Group, plus a special animation celebrating 60 years of Merton's heritage.
We have displays to mark VJ Day and 80 years since the end of World War II; Mudlark art, Merton 1965/2025, plus the latest beautiful photographs from Mitcham Camera Club. Rail enthusiasts will delight in a working layout of Motspur Park station from the Green Valley Railway; whilst sport fans can enjoy historic speedway strips and football material from WISH - the heritage arm of AFC Wimbledon.
Younger visitors can take part in our colouring competition, meet a Womble, try their hand at brass rubbing, play with traditional toys and join our special Womble Walk.
The event has something for young and old - for full details of the programme, see our Discovery Day Itinerary at the bottom of the page.
