The Carved in Stone Project

Carved in Stone uncovers the life stories of people commemorated on war memorials and gravestones across the borough, as well as details of life on the Home Front including the role of local women, the experiences of war refugees and the vital work of Merton hospitals, charities and industries.

Merton at War: A Heritage Map

From their project research, our team have devised the Merton at War heritage map. This map highlights sites with First World War associations, enabling you to explore different parts of the borough and learn about what was happening locally 100 years ago.

Copies of the Merton at War map are available across the borough from a range of local heritage sites, your local libraries and the Local Studies Centre in Morden Library.
