Organised by The Reading Agency and the public library network, the annual Summer Reading Challenge, aimed at 4 - 11 year olds is simple and fun. Children are encouraged to read six or more library books of their choice during the summer holidays with collectable incentives and rewards. Those who finish the challenge will get a medal and a certificate along with the chance of winning one of many prizes. Younger siblings aged 2-3 years can join the fun with a mini Space Chase Challenge, to receive stickers and a certificate.

Children can sign up at their local library from Saturday 6 July – it's absolutely free.

The Summer Reading Challenge 2019 theme is Space Chase, an out-of-this-world adventure inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.
