Description:
Join us for this free hands-on workshop, where you will learn about Merton's heritage and can also share your own stories of living, working or studying in the borough. This particular session will focus on the history of West Barnes and the heritage of Merton's South Asian community.
Assisted by the Merton heritage team and community arts group, Made in Merton, you will get the chance to block print fabric and contribute to the design of a banner, for display at community venues across Merton. The activity is open to all but we are particularly keen to hear about the stories and experiences of Merton's Tamil and South Asian residents.
This event is part of the Merton United project, made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to stage special workshops, creating a unique series of banners celebrating local and community heritage.
Requirements: Participants are invited to bring photographs or materials (such as fabric, documents or memorabilia) linked to West Barnes or the South Asian community. This will be used to encourage discussion of local heritage and may feature in the completed textile artwork.
