This Author Event launched the first commission of the Arts Council England funded programme as Merton Libraries embarks on its journey as a National Portfolio Organisation (2023-26) and our partnership with Wimbledon BookFest who brought Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai to join us at Wimbledon Library as part of her UK tour, visiting London to launch her new book Dust Child in conversation with founder and director of Free Books Campaign Sofia Akel.
Dr Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai is an award-winning Vietnamese writer and journalist. Author of eleven books of poetry, short fiction and non-fiction. Her debut novel and first book in English, The Mountains Sing, is an International best seller, an unsparing and lyrical coming- of-age novel set in 1970s Vietnam. The Mountains Sing, is, a haunting tale of identity, love and loss with the epic sweep of Min Jin Lee’s Pachinko and the beauty of Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner.
